What we noticed, from a polite distance.
A certain A-list couple spent eleven days on a chartered ketch off Sardinia and posted precisely one photograph, of a lemon. This is the new flex: proof of nothing. We approve entirely.
A Hollywood leading man has reportedly taken to declining the after-party in favour of dinner at eight, at home, with four people. The industry has decided this is a mid-life crisis. It is, more probably, taste arriving late.
Elsewhere: the resurgence of the handwritten thank-you card among women under thirty-five, which we suspect began as an aesthetic and has quietly become a manner. Long may it continue.
And a note on the birthday dinner as status object. The most talked-about table this summer had twelve seats, no photographer, and a rule against phones. Everyone who was there has mentioned it. Nobody has shown it.
“The most fashionable thing anyone did this summer was decline to document it.”
