The Summer Triangle: Saint-Tropez, Cannes & Monaco

Between late May and early September, ninety kilometres of coastline become the most concentrated stretch of pleasure in Europe. The trick is not seeing all three. It is knowing what each is for.

Saint-Tropez — for the afternoons

Arrive by tender, never by car. The village is best in the two hours before dinner, when the light turns the shutters pink and the day boats come back in. Linen, sandals, nothing that requires maintenance.

Cannes — for the evenings

The Croisette is a runway with a sea view. This is where the wardrobe earns its place: silk, heels, a bag that can be photographed. Book dinner late; the city does not begin until nine.

Monaco — for the theatre

Half a square mile of vertical ambition. Come for the Grand Prix if you like noise, for the Hôtel de Paris if you prefer marble, and for the harbour at midnight if you want to understand the whole coast in one glance.

• Two nights Saint-Tropez — beach club lunches, early nights.
• Two nights Cannes — dinners, boutiques, the Croisette after dark.
• Three nights Monaco — a suite with a harbour view, one day at sea.

The Riviera in 2026

Southern Europe held its momentum while northern markets lost traction, and luxury hospitality remained one of the strongest segments of the entire market. On the Côte d'Azur that has translated into fuller shoulder seasons, higher spend per guest and a decisive shift away from the peak-August crush.

May, June, September

The knowledgeable now travel either side of the season. Late May brings the festival energy without the queue; September brings warm water, empty beach clubs and rates that have not yet reset. August remains for those who came for the crowd rather than the coast.

• Day charters instead of week-long yacht bookings.
• Wellness mornings — sea swim, spa, no agenda — before evening plans.
