Some sports are played. Others are attended. The finest are both — and they come with a dress code that has not changed in a hundred years.

Tennis

The last sport where white is not a suggestion. Grass season is short, the clubs are older than most countries, and a well-cut pleated skirt still outperforms every technical fabric on the market.

Elegance in sport is simply competence that refuses to look strained.

Formula One

Monaco in May, Monza in September. The paddock is the real event; the race is the excuse. Flat shoes, sunglasses, and an aversion to logos will serve you better than any pass.

Sailing and polo

Both reward patience and punish overdressing. Linen, deck shoes, a hat that stays on. Neither sport has ever needed to be explained to look expensive.

Sport became the most valuable social currency in luxury

Access replaced ownership as the status marker. Paddock passes, club membership and championship hospitality now sit alongside jewellery in the gifting conversation, and they benefit from the same shift toward experience that carried wellness and travel through a flat year.

The calendar that matters

  • Monaco in May — the only Grand Prix that is also a social season.
  • Roland-Garros in June — clay, restraint, no branding on court.
  • Wimbledon in July — the last major with a dress code worth honouring.
  • Formula One night races — Singapore and Las Vegas for spectacle.
  • Alpine tennis and golf clubs — where the introductions actually happen.

The gift is rarely the ticket. It is the two days built around it — the hotel, the table, the car that arrives without being asked for.
