Waiting is a luxury skill. The piece bought six months later, in cash, is the same piece — worn with a great deal more pleasure.

Nothing beautiful survives being resented.

Divide the price by the years you will realistically wear it. If the number still pleases you, buy it once and properly.

Pre-owned is no longer a compromise

The single most practical development of the last two years is the normalisation of preowned luxury. Buyers redirected spending toward resale in large numbers, and the stigma disappeared with them. A documented pre-owned piece from a great house beats a new piece from an indifferent one, at half the outlay.

Rules for luxury without borrowing

  • Never finance an object that depreciates while you wear it.
  • Wait thirty days on anything above a set threshold; most desire expires.
  • Buy fewer categories, better examples.
  • Prefer experiences when cash is tight — they never need insuring.
  • Sell what you no longer wear before buying what you do.
Debt is the only accessory that gets heavier every month.
